Where the Soul Meets the Circuit: Welcome to Johnny the Hat
Welcome to my corner of the digital world. If you’ve landed here, you’re probably looking for a mix of high-voltage rock and roll, some deep-dive travel stories, and a look at how cutting-edge technology is changing the way we create art.
This isn’t your typical corporate landing page. Johnny The Hat is my personal headquarters. It’s a creative workshop, a digital memoir, and a soundstage all rolled into one. I finally decided to dust off this domain and give it a purpose: to serve as the home for my lyrics, my journey with Janet, and my experiments with AI.
The Story Behind the “Hat”
People ask me, “Johnny… why do the call you Johnny The Hat? And I say its because I wear Glasses”
Nah. It’s way simpler than that.
Way back in the very Early 2000’s Janet and I traveled to South Africa and I bought a hat to keep the sun off the thinning haired head. I have had many a hat since. So many I have lost count and I just like wearing them.
And I think it goes with the rock n roll image.

The Sound: 80s Anthems for the Modern Age
If you were to peek into my “Lab” on any given night, you’d hear a very specific kind of noise. My musical DNA is rooted in the glory days of rock and roll. I’m talking about the era of big hair, bigger choruses, and guitar solos that made you want to stand on top of a mountain.
My “sonic blueprint” is a pretty specific cocktail. Imagine the soulful, intricate harmonies of The Eagles meeting the gritty, post-grunge power of Nickelback. Now, add a generous smattering of Bon Jovi’s anthemic energy and finish it all off with a pinch of Whitesnake’s bluesy, hard-rock swagger.
That’s the sound I’m chasing. It’s music that feels nostalgic but looks forward. It’s about big hooks, honest lyrics, and the kind of production that demands to be played loud in a car with the windows down.
I’ve always been a lyricist at heart. I love the way a single line can capture a decade of feeling. But as an AI Creator, I’ve found a new way to bring those lyrics to life. I don’t just write songs; I “lab-grow” them by blending my human experience with the incredible capabilities of artificial intelligence.

My AI Prompting Strategy: Engineering the Rock
You might be wondering how an “AI Creator” actually works. Some people think using AI to make music is just pushing a button, but in, it’s a little more than that. It’s about the “Prompting Strategy.”
I treat the AI like a world-class session band. If I want that specific 80s rock sound, I have to be the ultimate director. I don’t just ask for “a rock song.” I dive deep into the technical and emotional nuances.
My strategy involves layering prompts that define the “vibe” before we even get to the melody. I might start with:
- The Grit: “Gravelly, mid-range male vocals with a post-grunge edge, reminiscent of Chad Kroeger.”
- The Harmony: “Three-part vocal harmonies in the chorus, tight and polished, inspired by Hotel California.”
- The Energy: “Driving 4/4 drum beat with a heavy snare, 1980s arena reverb, and a soaring analog synth pad in the background.”
By blending these specific “ingredients,” I can guide the AI to produce something that sounds like it came straight out of a high-end studio in 1987, but with the crispness of 2026. It’s a collaborative process. I write the soul: the lyrics, the meaning, the heart: and then I use the “Lab” to engineer the perfect wall of sound to surround it.

The Journey with Janet: My Muse and My Compass
Behind every great song and every long journey, there’s usually a person who makes it all worth it. For me, that’s Janet.
Our travel adventures are just part of the fuel for lyrics in my head. Whether we’re exploring a hidden corner of Europe or just taking a weekend road trip, Janet is the one who keeps me grounded while also encouraging me to reach for the stars.
“Around the World in a Lifetime” is as much her story as it is mine. We’ve seen the world together, and those shared experiences are woven into the very fabric of my music. There’s a certain kind of magic that happens when you’re in a foreign city, miles from home, with nothing but a map and the person you love. That’s where the best lyrics come from.
When I’m writing about the “soul” in the soul + technology mix, I’m usually thinking about our travels. Janet is the “window into my soul” that I mentioned. She sees the raw drafts, the failed experiments, and the late-night sessions where the prompts just aren’t clicking. Her influence is the reason the music sounds human, even when it’s being assisted by a machine.

Why the Tech Doesn’t Replace the Heart
There’s a lot of debate these days about AI in the arts. Some people are worried that the machines will take over the “feeling” of music. I see it differently.
The AI is my instrument, just like a Gibson Les Paul or a Fender Stratocaster. A guitar doesn’t play itself, and it doesn’t decide what the song is about. It’s a tool used to express a human emotion.
When I sit down at my computer, I’m not looking for the AI to tell me how I feel. I already know how I feel. I’m looking for the AI to help me build the most powerful, anthemic version of that feeling possible. I want the listener to feel the wind in their hair and the grit in their teeth.
We use the tools of tomorrow to tell the stories of yesterday and today. It’s about the balance. It’s about making sure that even when the production is massive and the AI is doing the heavy lifting, the heart of the song: the lyric, the melody, the “soul”: is still 100% Johnny B.
What’s Next for Johnny The Hat ?
This site is just getting started. As I move forward with my journey with Janet and continue to refine my AI rock sound, I’ll be sharing it all here.
You can expect:
- New Track Drops: Hear the latest versions of “Around the World in a Lifetime” and other songs in progress.
- Behind-the-Prompt: I’ll be sharing more of my “Lab” secrets on how to get that perfect 80s rock sound out of AI tools.
- Travel Journals: Photos and stories from my adventures with Janet that inspire the music.
- Gear & Tech Talk: A casual look at the tools I’m using to bridge the gap between lyricist and creator.
Thanks for stopping by the Lab. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m glad you’re here for the ride. Whether you’re a fan of big rock anthems, a fellow AI enthusiast, or just someone who loves a good travel story, there’s a seat for you at the workbench.
Let’s see where this road takes us. After all, it takes a lifetime to go around the world: we might as well have a great soundtrack for the trip.
